Sakwithi Ranasinghe Scandal
All Sri Lankans the world over know Sakvithi Ranasinghe as a “renowned” English Teacher. Well by now he has become famous as the best, most cunning and deceptful thief Sri Lanka has ever known. Sakvithi Ranasinghe became the first Sri Lankan in recent times to pull off a massive stunt of stealing billions of Rs of peoples monies from right under the Central Bank and the Government’s noses.
Its no secret that the Central Bank has put in place many strict regulations regarding the investing and transers of money within the country. At a time when the country is fighting a terrorist organisation one can only be lead to think that this is of vital importance which it is. But it is indeed sad to see a single individual take down all the credit and reputation of a strong and influential monetary policy we have had in the country up to date.
If any person or individual so as transfers any amount of money (say for ex: a few lakhs of Rs. ) the Central Bank monitors the transactions to see where the funds end up. Its obvious that we do not want to have people funding the LTTE terrorist organization which is now at the end of a long trail of war. In such a context, the Sakvithi scandal is a real eye opener. It once again proves that no matter what legislature or laws are brought to our country, there will always be people who manage to “slip” through them.
